G5:  Verb Tenses III - Future Progressive

by Tom Rohrbach

Multiple Choice Quiz

We usually use the FUTURE PROGRESSIVE verb tense in English for four reasons (see below).

Sometimes, it is the only correct verb tense. Other times, it's a correct option but not as popular as other tenses.

FUTURE PROGRESSIVE

   HOW TO MAKE FUTURE PROGRESSIVE:
will be doing  |  am going to be doing  |  is going to be doing  |  are going to be doing    NOTE: We never use the "be" verb in future progressive.  Example: She will be being...

   REASONS:    EXAMPLES:
to emphasize that something in the future is continuing for a period of time   We will be staying in Barcelona for 5 days before we go to Madrid.
I am going to be studying at the library all evening.
to talk about something that is in progress at a particular future time   Next January we will be sailing around the Caribbean on our new yacht.
I will be competing in the Olympics on the day my brother graduates from high school.
to talk about what's happening in the future when something else will start or interrupt   We will be sleeping when you arrive.
John will be waiting in line at the Apple store when the new iPhone goes on sale.
to preview or announce something    [other tenses are also common for this]   Apple will be announcing the new, larger iPhone later this year.
I heard that Tesla is going to be building a giant battery factory in 2015.

Please read each question carefully.  In this practice quiz, some questions may have more

than one correct answer, so there's a choice like 'ANSWERS "B", "C", and "D" below are all correct'.

In other questions (like #1 below), you are asked which verb tense is the BEST choice.
