We have several ways to talk about the future in English...

We can use a special verb, like "plan" or "want" or "hope"...

We can use a modal, like "may" or "might" or "should"...

 

We can also use 5 different verb tenses to talk about the future:

  1. future with "will"

  2. future with "(be) going to"

  3. future progressive

  4. simple present   [only for previously or regularly scheduled future events; also, never with a passive verb]

  5. present progressive   [but not for guesses / predictions]
