G4:  Verb Tenses VII - Stative Passive & Participials

by Tom Rohrbach

Multiple Choice Quiz

In this practice quiz, we look at the '-ed' and '-ing' forms of verbs.

"Stative Passive" is when we describe the 'state' or condition of something, using an '-ed' form of a verb.

EXAMPLES:   The mall is closed.   The project is finished.

We also use the '-ed' and '-ing' forms of verbs as ADJECTIVES sometimes.

What's the difference?  We use '-ed' to show how a person FEELS.

We use '-ing' to describe how the THING, or SITUATION, or OTHER PERSON makes someone feel.

Does that make sense?  Below are some examples...

EXAMPLES:   My little brother is bored because all my friends are ignoring him.  [HOW HE FEELS]

My little brother thinks this party is boring because everyone else is older than him.  [BORING PARTY]
